Agua, Vida, Y tierra
A Devised Project
This is a bilingual multimedia documentary theatre piece about Puerto Rico and the colonial relationship between the island and the United States. Created as a response to the trauma of Hurricane María, the piece combines video, sound, music, dance, text, and projection to create a theatrical experience that is part epic poem, part historical drama, part celebration, and part funeral liturgy. Based on interviews and research gathered during two residencies on the island, the project considers the ongoing legacy of erasure, cultural death, and denial of Puerto Rican humanity by colonizing powers in the last 400 years.
